22 Hudson Valley Towns Have Smallest Percentage of English Speakers in NY
Twenty-two Hudson Valley towns ranked in the top 32 for having the smallest English-speaking population in "Upstate New York."
NYup.com complied dated from the U.S. Census to find out the areas in "Upstate New York" where English is spoken the least. In some Hudson Valley locations, non-English-speakers outnumber English-speakers.
Before you shoot the messenger, Ben Axelson of NYup.com told Hudson Valley Post in an email the website classified upstate as anything north of Rockland County.
The website listed 32 communities that all have an English-speaking population lower than 75%.
"This percentage indicates individuals who speak only English at home vs. people who speak a language other than English at home. Many individuals who speak a language other than English at home are also capable of speaking some or fluent English," Axelson wrote in the article.
