Cops: Body Found After Elderly Hudson Valley Man Jumps Off Bridge

What's believed to be the body of an elderly Hudson Valley man was found floating in the Hudson River.

On Tuesday around 3:20 a.m., the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge for a 911 call reporting a suspicious vehicle on the bridge span.

Responding deputies located the vehicle unattended.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the driver, a 76-year old man from Rhinebeck, jumped off the bridge into the Hudson River, police say.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office deployed patrol boats to search the Hudson River. U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York was contacted and they provided marine patrol deputies with data on recommended search areas based on changing environmental conditions, police say.

Around 12:30 p.m., Dutchess County marine patrol deputies located the body of a deceased man in the Hudson River.

The man was turned over to the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and autopsy. The man's name hasn't been identified as of this writing.

The U.S. Coast Guard, New York State Bridge Authority, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office
and Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office all assisted in the investigation.
