2 Floors of Dutchess County Hospital Evacuated Due To Fire

Two floors of a Dutchess County hospital had to be evacuated after a fire broke out inside the hospital.

On Wednesday around 2:45 p.m., firefighters from the Fairview Fire District were sent to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie after a fire alarm went off.

Arriving first-responders found an active fire in the Cooke section of the building. The alarm was upgraded and additional resources from the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department were dispatched.

Hospital staff evacuated two floors of the hospital after smoke was noticed on two floors.

A small fire was discovered coming from ductwork for the ventilation of the building’s generator. The fire was extinguished and declared under control at 3:08 p.m., officials say.

At no time were hospital staff or patients in any danger, the Fairview Fire District reports.

The fire was determined to be caused by a mechanical issue with a newly installed generator, according to fire officials.
