In wake of the Florida mass shooting at least 13 Hudson Valley school districts dealt with very scary threats of violence.

On the day of the tragedy in Florida, a Minisink Valley bus driver was arrested for making a terroristic threat.

The next day, police from Columbia County investigated what they described as "disturbing images" regarding the Ichabod Crane Central School District.

On Feb. 21, following a complaint received from Saugerties High School, Saugerties police began an investigation into several social media postings. The posts, provided by Saugerties police, mentioned how the poster envied the people behind the Columbine massacre. A week later, a Saugerties student and his father were arrested.

One week after the mass shooting in Florida, the Dover Union Free School District closed down all of its schools after the high school received a bomb threat.   A 14-year-old male student was taken into custody and charged as a juvenile

Around the same time, the Dover Union Free School District received another bomb scare and dealt with a school shooting threat that was posted on Snapchat. 

The next day, across the river, Port Jervis police investigated a threatening post on Snapchat that indicated a threat of violence at Port Jervis High School. Two teens from the school district were later charged with felonies for allegedly making the threats.

On the same day, just before midnight, New Windsor police were told threats were made against Vails Gate STEAM Academy and Meadow Hill.

The next day, the Hyde Park Central School District addressed concerns about a social media post which threatened a school shooting in Hyde Park. 

The same day, Cairo-Durham High School was placed on lockdown after a 9th-grade student allegedly told other students that were in danger. The 15-year-old was charged with making a terroristic threat.

Also on the same day, a 17-year-old student at S.S. Seward Institute was charged a felony for making a terroristic threat towards the high school.

Exactly two weeks after the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the Poughkeepsie City School District closed down all of its schools for two days as police investigated a school shooting threat. 

Also on that day, deputies from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the BOCES Tech Center in the Town of Hyde Park for a report of someone making threats of “shooting up the school” via Snapchat. A 17-year-old girl from Pawling High School who attends BOCES was charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony.

Just a few hours later, the Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer assigned to the Pine Plains School District was told about a threat made by a student at the high school. A 15-year-old was arrested over allegations he told other students he was going to shoot up the class. 

In related news, a teen from Dutchess County helped police stop a teen who allegedly had plans to shoot up his school and kill as many students as possible at a school in Vermont.
