DEC: Hudson Valley Homeowner Sets Shed on Fire after Brush Burn
A Hudson Valley man is accused of setting an illegal fire that spread to his shed which was full of gasoline and motorcycles.
On Easter, during a traffic stop in Shawangunk, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers spotted large flames and smoke coming from a structure.
As the officers arrived at the home, they noticed several people fleeing from a large shed.
After clearing the house and property of people, several small explosions could be seen and heard coming from the shed, according to the DEC.
The homeowner told officers that gas cans and motorcycles were inside the shed, authorities say.
The homeowner allegedly admitted to burning brush near the shed. The homeowner was issued an appearance ticket for unlawful open burning during the burning ban, which is in effect from March 16 through May 14.
