Snake Hangs From Doorknob at Hudson Valley Home (PHOTOS)

Imagine coming home, walking to your door and as you're about to grab your doorknob you see a large snake hanging there.

Well, that's what happened on Monday in Kingston. A resident of Orchard Hills called the police for what police described as an "unwanted visitor": A black rat snake hanging on a doorknob.

According to the National Wildlife, black rat snakes are large non-venomous snakes between 3.5 and 7 feet long. Black rat snakes are also excellent climbers and spend May and June looking to breed.

It clearly wasn't Kingston police officer Anthony North's lucky day, or he drew the short-straw, because officer North responded to remove the snake.

North was able to safely remove the snake and release it into the woods unharmed, according to a Kingston police Facebook post.

"Yes we handle all types of emergencies...," Kingston police wrote on Facebook.
