Plane From Dutchess County Crashes Down in Hudson Valley

Mid-flight, a plane's engine stalled causing the aircraft to crash down in the Hudson Valley.

On Saturday around 4:40 p.m., the Columbia County Sheriff's Office learned about a single-engine aircraft accident, which occurred in a private field located next to Koeppe Road in the Town of Taghkanic.

The pilot, 54-year-old Roger Tyron from M.A. said his engine was stalling and would not restart so he had to make an emergency landing in a grassy farm field.

The pilot touched down and the plane lost its landing gear due to the ground not being level. The left wing then struck the ground causing the plane to spin 180 degrees.

Inspection of the aircraft revealed additional damage to the single-engine prop and the belly of the plane, police say.

The two passenger plane was flying from the Dutchess County Airport to the Great Barrington Massachusetts Airport. Tyron and his passenger weren't injured, according to police.

The investigation into the crash has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
