Police: Hudson Valley Babysitter Used Child to Help in Burglary
A Hudson Valley babysitter is accused of using a boy he was watching to help him steal from a local home.
On Thursday around 3:30 p.m., deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Lucas Avenue Extension and DeJager Lane in the Town of Rochester for a 911 call reporting a 6-year-old boy, "dragging a suitcase".
Arriving officers found a teen and young boy, who turned out to be 10-years-old, in possession of proceeds of an apparent burglary, police say.
A 16-year-old from Ellenville is accused of providing a fake name and age to authorities.
Detectives alleged that the 16-year-old burglarized a home on Lucas Avenue Extension in the Town of Rochester and used the 10-year-old child to help him.
The 16-year-old was the boy’s babysitter, police say. The teen was charged with burglary, two counts of grand larceny, criminal mischief, all felonies, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal impersonation, misdemeanors.
He was arraigned in Town of Rosendale Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.
The 10-year-old was released to a parent.
