Job Growth Continues at Record Pace in Hudson Valley
The number of jobs in the Hudson Valley is the highest ever on record, according to the most recent data.
The New York State Department of Labor recently released preliminary local area unemployment rates for May 2019. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
From May 2018 to May 2019, the State’s private sector employment count increased by 87,400, officials say.
For the 12-month period ending May 2019, jobs in the Hudson Valley increased by 5,200, or 0.6 percent, according to the Department of Labor.
The Hudson Valley private-sector job count of 816,800 was the highest May employment count ever, officials say.
Sullivan County’s private employment sector had the highest gains over the past year, up 9 percent. Kingston (Ulster County) saw growth by 2.4 percent while Dutchess and Putnam counties saw an increase of 2.3 percent, according to new data released by the Department of Labor.
The Orange-Rockland-Westchester labor market area declined by 0.1 percent over the period.
