Increased Security in Hudson Valley After Suspicious Packages
Security will be increased in the Hudson Valley and across the state after suspected bombs were sent to several Hudson Valley homes.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced law enforcement will be doubled at many transit points and 100 additional National Guard troops are being deployed across New York State.
"Over the last two days, explosive devices have been found at three New York locations that we are aware of, and State Police are assisting Secret Service and other relevant federal and local authorities in this ongoing investigation," Cuomo said.
Security will be doubled at the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge in the Hudson Valley as well as the George Washington, RFK, Verrazzano-Narrows, Bronx-Whitestone, Throgs Neck, Henry Hudson, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial, Cross Bay Veterans Memorial bridges, the Staten Island crossings Lincoln, Holland, Hugh L. Carey and Queens Midtown Tunnels.
"Public safety is our number one priority, and we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of New Yorkers," Cuomo said in a press release. "As New Yorkers, we understand the dangers of our times and — just as we have done since the first bombing of the World Trade Center 25 years ago — we will stand up and stand together against them."
On Wednesday, a suspicious package was found at Bill and Hillary Clinton's Westchester home. This came days after a bomb was found in a mailbox at billionaire George Soros' nearby Westchester home.
On Tuesday, similar packages were sent to former President Obama, the CNN and several other top Democrats.
