A Hudson Valley man is accused of neglecting a number of animals.

Last week, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was told about animals being neglected on a farm on Mineral Springs Road in White Sulphur Springs.

Police found several goats and sheep that appeared to be emaciated on the farm, police say. The caretaker of the farm was issued a notice to comply and instructed to provide the necessary food and water to the animals.

On Tuesday, police were told the general welfare of the animals was still in decline.

Authorities returned to the farm with a search warrant. At the farm, officers found two bags of food on the back of a pickup truck which was not given to the animals, officials say.

The animals were severely malnourished, according to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.

The caretaker of the farm, Lenis Pagan, 29, was charged with five counts of animal cruelty for failing to provide sustenance under the state Agriculture and Markets law.

He was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail.

Deputies seized eight goats, six lambs and approximately 60 ducks and geese. They were relocated to a farm in Jeffersonville pending the outcome of the criminal action.
