High Risk Sex Offender Moves Closer to Hudson Valley High School
A high-risk sex offender who sexually abused a teen in Virginia moved even closer to a Hudson Valley high school.
On Facebook, Kingston police warned that 31-year-old Royal Sheley moved from West Chestnut Street to an apartment on Brewster Street in Kingston.
According to Google Maps, the level-3 sex offender now lives less than a half-mile from Kingston High School. Sheley previously lived under a mile from the high school. In another direction, Sheley is also now less than a half-mile from SUNY Ulster at Kingston.
According to the New York State Sex Offenders database, in 2009 Sheley was arrested in Virginia for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl.
It’s unclear why Sheley moved to the Hudson Valley, though he has lived in the area in the past. In 2015, Town of Ulster police reported on Facebook that Sheley moved from Lake Katrine to an out of New York state address.
Level-3 sex offenders are considered to have the highest risk of a repeat offense and are considered the greatest risk to the public.
