Feds: Uber Driver Kidnaps, Fondles Hudson Valley Woman

An Uber driver is accused of groping, kidnapping and overcharging a Hudson Valley woman. More victims are likely.

On Tuesday in White Plains Federal Court, 24-year-old Harbir Parmar of Queens was charged with kidnapping and wire fraud.

On February 21 around 11:30 a.m., a woman ordered an Uber to pick her up in New York City and take her to her home in White Plains.

Parmar, a licensed Uber driver, picked up the Hudson Valley woman. During the drive, the woman fell asleep and Parmar allegedly changed the woman's destination to Boston, MA.

When the White Plains woman woke up, the car was on the side of the road and Parmar was in the back seat with her with his hand under her shirt touching her breast, officials say.

After the woman woke, Parmar jumped back into the front seat and continued driving. The woman requested to be taken to White Plains police, but Parmar allegedly refused.

Instead, the Uber driver is accused of dropping off the woman on the side of I-95 in Branford, C.T.

“As alleged, Harbir Parmar was hired to transport a woman from Manhattan to her home in White Plains. Instead, Parmar kidnapped, terrorized, and assaulted the woman before dumping her on the side of an interstate," U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said in a press release. "No one – man or woman – should fear such an attack when they simply hire a car service.”

The New York Post reports, Parmar charged the woman over $1,000 for the trip she never requested, leaving her stranded in Connecticut.

In addition, for over two years, Parmar sent false information about customers destinations on at least 11 occasions and sent a false cleaning fee for at least three Uber customers, resulting in customers being overcharged over $3,600, officials say.
