A Hudson Valley man is accused of illegally burning furniture, garbage and more in his backyard.

Recently New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officer Tom Koepf was contacted by DEC dispatchers to respond to an illegal burn in the town of Wawarsing.

Upon his arrival, Koef said he spotted a large burn in progress in the backyard of a town of Wawarsing home. After interviewing the homeowner, who allegedly admitted to starting the fire, Koepf inspected what was inside the blaze.

The fire included a mattress box spring, old furniture and several bags of household garbage, police say.

The unnamed man was given a ticket for illegal burning of prohibited material and was educated about burning regulations in New York State.
The fire was extinguished with a nearby garden house.

The homeowner is due at the Town of Wawarsing Court at a later date.

The sudden closure of a popular buffet, a local heading to the NBA and a wanted Hudson Valley sex offender tops this week in local news stories.
