Dutchess County Police Save Young Man’s Life

Local police are credited with saving a young man’s life.

On Saturday around 8:45 a.m., Red Hook police were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to a home in the Village of Red Hook for a report of an apparent drug overdose.

Arriving police found a 20-year-old man unresponsive and not breathing on the floor of the home. A Red Hook police officer and a New York State trooper gave the man two dosages of Narcan which restored the man's breathing and allowed him to regain consciousness, police say.

Narcan is a drug which is known to reverse the effects from an opioid overdose. Less than two weeks ago, Red Hook police received recertification in the Intranasal Narcan training.

The 20-year-old was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by Northern Dutchess Paramedics for further treatment.
