DEC: Hudson Valley Hunter Illegally Killed Turkey

A Hudson Valley hunter is accused of illegally killing a turkey in the local area.

Recently, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation received a call from a bowhunter in the town of Putnam Valley.

The bowhunter said gunshots were heard during bow hunting season.

An Environmental Conservation officer responded to the area and met with the bowhunter who pointed him in the direction of where he heard the shots.

The ECO officer then found two large feeders overflowing with corn and a parked car nearby, police say.

A short time later, a person came over a hill with an untagged hen turkey in hand. The officer asked the hunter about the bait and the man quickly admitted to placing it there for turkeys and deer, according to the DEC.

The man was issued tickets for failure to tag a turkey, as required, and for taking a turkey with the aid of bait. The charges are returnable in Putnam Valley Town Court.

The turkey was seized and donated.
