120 Mature Trees Illegally Removed From Hudson Valley Property
A logger is facing felony charges for allegedly illegally removing 120 mature trees from a property in the Hudson Valley.
In April, A Department of Environmental Conservation officer received a complaint from a landowner in the town of Cochecton who said she recently walked her property and noticed that several dozen mature trees had been cut down and removed.
The officer found that the woman's property boundaries were clearly marked and that theft of timber had occurred, officials say.
The forester provided Koepf with a report showing that 120 mature trees were cut and removed, amounting to estimated damage and theft of $43,548.
In late June, with the help of New York State Police, an unnamed logger was charged with grand larceny, a felony, and removing trees from lands of another, a misdemeanor.
