Tire-Gashing Devices Found on Streets in Hudson Valley
Police are warning drivers to be on the lookout for homemade tire-gashing devices which were found on roads in the Hudson Valley.
Police in Vernon, New Jersey have recovered 20 devices with several different designs but all are being placed on roads to puncture and slash tires, officials say.
"One style device really looks like a razor blade, like two razor blades together," Vernon Police Chief Daniel Young told NBC. "They're obviously homemade, they're taking a lot of time to put them together. The other one is a little archaic, kind of like an oversized piece of barb wire."
The tire-gashing devices are being found all over the New Jersey-New York border including in Orange County, mainly Warwick, police say.
"Please call if you find a device similar to this in, or around, your driveway or have any information about those who are responsible for making and/or dropping them," Warwick police wrote on Facebook.
Police are continuing their investigation and say they have a few leads.
