Police: Tired Hudson Valley Driver Likely Caused Fatal 9W Crash

A Hudson Valley man was killed while riding his bike in the local area.

On Thursday, detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office concluded the investigation into the fatal accident that occurred on April 30th, on Route 9W in Ulster Park.

According to police, a white 2013 Ford F-150 driven by 33-year-old Michael C. Brailey of Red Hook left the roadway for and struck a man on a bicycle.

The bicyclist, 33-year-old Justin Boyd of Port Ewen, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, officials say.

A comprehensive and extensive investigation conducted by the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the New York State Police Computer Crime Unit revealed that alcohol, drugs and distraction from a cellphone weren't factors in the accident, police say.

It was concluded that Brailey likely became drowsy and drifted off the roadway, striking Boyd, according to the Ulster County Sheriff's Office.

Brailey was charged with the traffic infractions of speed in excess of 55 mph and moving from lane unsafely.
