Police: Hudson Valley Elementary Teacher Found With Child Porn
A Hudson Valley elementary school teacher is accused of owning a large amount of child porn.
On Jan. 26, State Police from Wappinger initiated an investigation into inappropriate comments made by a teacher to a student in the Wappingers Central School District.
According to State Police, the inappropriate comments were made by 53-year-old Steven Schwartz of Poughkeepsie, a teacher at Fishkill Plains Elementary School.
An investigation by State Police, in conjunction with the Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center and with assistance from the Wappinger Central School District, revealed that Schwartz had child porn on his personal electronic devices, police say.
Schwartz teaches second-grade at Fishkill Plains Elementary School, according to the school's website.
On Friday, Schwartz was charged with six counts of possession of sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.
Schwartz was arraigned before the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
