Police: 4 Hit By Impaired Driver Crossing Street in Hudson Valley
A woman, two young girls and an infant were hit by a car by an alleged impaired driver as they walked on a crosswalk in the Hudson Valley.
On Tuesday around 10:20 p.m., Kingston police responded to Broadway near the Ulster Preforming Arts Center reports of a car hitting four people.
A 20-year-old female, 12-year-old girl, 9-year-old girl and 1-year-old girl were hit as they crossed a crosswalk, police say. All four were taken to a local hospital. The 20-year-old, 9-year-old and 1-year-old are expected to be transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment.
Kingston held an Independence Day event near the area that evening.
The driver of the car, 59-year-old Robert A. Russel of Kingston was arrested for vehicular assault, a felony, driving while ability impaired by drugs, failure to yield the right of way to pedestrians and other vehicle and traffic violations.
Russell was remanded to Ulster County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
The police investigation into the crash is ongoing.
