A Monroe man is accused of beating his wife for months and then returning to the home hours after he was first arrested.

On Thursday, the Monroe Police Department responded to a home for a report of domestic violence. Arriving officers arrested 30-year-old on Idi Gil-Aguilar of Monroe for allegedly assaulting his wife.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Gil-Aguilar bit and punched his wife several times that day and physically prevented her from leaving their home while their 2-year-old child watched, police say.

It was also discovered that this type of physical abuse was going on for the past few months but the woman was afraid to come forward, according to Monroe police. The woman had several old and new bruises all over her body from the physical abuse, officials say.

Gil-Aguilar was charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment, endangering the Welfare of a Child and harassment. He was arraigned by the Village of Monroe Court and released on his own recognizance with an Order of Protection to stay away from the home.

Later that day, around 8:50 p.m., Monroe police were called back to the same home following a report that Gil-Aguilar returned to the home.

Officers allegedly Gil-Aguilar hid under the bed of the victim. Gil-Aguilar was arrested a second time and charged with criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
