An investigation is underway after a man was fatally shot by police in the Hudson Valley. On Saturday around 3 p.m., two Warkick police officers responded for a reported domestic dispute at a home on Wheeler Avenue in Warwick.

Upon arrival, a man in his 30's was armed with a knife, according to authorities. Officers told the man to drop the weapon. When he charged at officers with the knife, he was shot by an officer, police say.

The unnamed man was taken by ambulance to nearby St Anthony's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The unnamed officer who fired the shot was placed on administrative leave, which is procedure, according to Warwick Police Department Lt. Thomas Maslanka.

An investigation is underway to determine if the shooting was justified and will likely go to a grand jury, according to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler.

No other injuries were reported.
