A Hudson Valley man was beaten to death on a railroad bed behind a cemetery. His friend was later arrested.

On Sunday around 12:55 p.m. police were called by medical staff at Orange Regional Medical Center. Police were told that a 31-year-old man arrived at the hospital with a serious head injury, likely from an assault.

Following an investigation, officers believe that assault took place in Middletown on the railroad bed next to Low Avenue and behind St. Joseph’s Cemetery, early Sunday morning.

It is believed that the victim was involved in an altercation with a man he knew. During the altercation the 31-year-old was repeatedly struck in the head, causing significant trauma, police say.

The 31-year-old died from his injuries Monday night. The victim was reported to be homeless, his name hasn’t been released.

On Tuesday, 27-year-old Primitivo Sosa of Middletown was identified as a suspect and arrested. Sosa was charged with manslaughter.

Police will continue to investigate, however no additional suspects are being sought in relation to the crime, officials say.
