Brush Fire in Dutchess County Destroys Nearly 20 Acres of Land

A brush fire in Dutchess county tore through nearly 20 acres of land.

On Saturday around 5 p.m., the Arlington Fire District was dispatched to the area of 342 Van Wagner Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie for a report of black smoke from the woods behind the residence.

First responders found an active brush fire in the woods. The fire spread over an area approximately 15-20 acres before being contained and extinguished, officials say. The fire was put out just before 8 p.m.

Due to access and terrain issues, mutual aid departments with off-road utility vehicles and personnel from the LaGrange, Pleasant Valley, and Roosevelt Fire Districts were requested to the scene.

One firefighter received medical treatment for a minor eye injury.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
