Yankee Fans Don’t Want This Candidate as New York Governor
If you care more about pinstripes than politics, there's one candidate you don't want to see running New York.
On Tuesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his Republican challenger Marc Molinaro didn’t hold back in their debate before the November election. The only thing the pair seemed to agree on was where upstate New York starts.
Regardless of your political party, New York Yankee fans probably don't want Andrew Cuomo as governor.
Here's why. It might be hard to believe, with their recent success, but the Bronx Bombers haven't won a World Series in the 20 years a Cuomo has run the Empire State.
The Yankees have won 27 World Series, but not one has come with a Cuomo in office, the New York Daily News reports.
The Yankees and their fans believe each season is a failure if they don't win a championship. So, that means each year has been a failure for the Bronx Bombers with a Cuomo as governor.
The Yankees didn't win during the 12 years Cuomo's father, Mario Cuomo was governor. George Pataki was in office when the Yanks won in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
David Paterson was New York's governor during the Yankees most recent championship in 2009.
Interestingly enough, Mario Cuomo was governor when the Mets last won a championship, in 1986.
To be fair, whoever is governor really has no effect on who wins the World Series. But baseball players and fans can be very superstitious, so this fact may sway your opinion when you head to the polls, if you value pinstripes over politics.
