'Substantial Snow Event' Now Predicted For Hudson Valley

All of the Hudson Valley will likely see more snow than originally predicted, with some parts getting nearly a foot of snow.

On Thursday around 1 p.m., Hudson Valley Weather updated their snow totals for the Hudson Valley.

Hudson Valley Weather now believes the Mid and Upper Hudson Valley will see 4 to 8 inches of snow, with some parts of the region getting up to 10 inches.

The Catskills are now predicted to get 5 to 10 inches of snow, with localized higher amounts and the Lower Hudson Valley 3 to 6 inches with more icing on top.

"All signs point to a substantial snow event... beginning between 3pm and 6pm, from south to north. Falling heavy near and after sunset, with some ice mixed in overnight, before we see a brief burst of snow in time for the Friday AM commute," Hudson Valley Weather wrote on Facebook.

The updated snow totals include the entire event, which will likely end by Friday morning.

"The light sleet and freezing rain overnight may compact the snow a bit, but when all is said and done, widespread totals between 5 and 8 inches are likely, with some potentially higher totals (up to 10”) where the snow falls heaviest," Hudson Valley Weather said.

Previously, 4 to 8 inches of snow for the Catskills, 3 to 6 inches for the Mid and Upper Hudson Valley and 2 to 4 inches for the lower Hudson Valley was predicted.

Weather experts believe snow could make multiple commutes in the Hudson Valley "quite hazardous."

On Thursday, the National Weather Service issued Winter Storm Watches or Winter Storm Advisories for all of the Hudson Valley from Thursday afternoon until Friday afternoon.
