Rumor Killer: Star Wars Isn’t Filming In the Hudson Valley
The story that your friends and family are sharing on Facebook, about Star Wars filming in the Hudson Valley, sadly isn’t true.
Over the past month, maybe longer, I’ve seen a number of people sharing this story, “Next Star Wars Movie to be Filmed Near Poughkeepsie, New York, Hundreds of Extras Needed.”
Well I hate to ruin it for you, but this story is what some call, “fake news.”
In this day and age, we should fact-check any article we share on social media. Especially, if you’ve never heard of the site that posted the article.
The Star Wars article was published by “WFRV 9 News,” which claims to be “You Local News Source.” The typo of “You” instead of your, should be your first clue that the article isn’t real.
For more proof, if you click on the “About” section on the website, right above the article’s headline, you’ll find this disclaimer:
wfrv9.com is a satirical and fantasy website. None of the articles on wfrv9.com should be considered true and are simply works of satire or fantasy meant for entertainment purposes. The satirical and fantasy articles on wfrv9.com poke fun at our celebrity obsessed cultures and the politically correct world we’re forced to live in.
Snopes recently looked into the article, which has been shared across the country, just with a number of other cities in the headline. The fact-checking website gave the Star Wars article a “False” rating.
More and more movies are filming in the local area and while it would be pretty cool if Star Wars did film in the Hudson Valley, for now the story you are seeing everywhere on social media is, “fake news.”
