A Hudson Valley teen allegedly attempted to lure a woman into his car by acting as a police officer.

On Monday, the Red Hook Police Department received a call reporting a suspicious driver who attempted to offer a ride to a woman walking on East Market Street between Vin's Auto and Red Hook Auto.

The woman told police that an unknown man driving a white Toyota Corolla identified himself as a police officer and offered her a ride.

Red Hook police launched an investigation in hopes of finding the driver. On Friday, police received a tip from a Red Hook resident regarding a suspicious vehicle that matched the vehicle involved in Monday’s incident.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, admitted he stopped the woman to see if she needed help. Following an investigation it was determined that the unnamed teen wasn’t a threat to the public, police say. However, the investigation is ongoing.
