Hudson Valley Man Murdered By Teen, Police Say
Police are hoping for help after a local man was stabbed to death by a teen.
On Thursday just before 6 p.m., 42-year-old Nakia Burton of Hyde Park was stabbed in his chest in the City of Poughkeepsie.
The incident was originally reported to have taken place on Smith Street. However, further investigation revealed that the incident actually took place on Winnikee Avenue, police say.
Burton was a passenger in a car. Words were exchanged when a group of teenage men, between the ages 15 and 18 years-old, crossed the street in front of the vehicle, police say.
During the argument, a teen ran up to Burton and stabbed him in the chest when Burton got out of the car. The 42-year-old fell back into the car and was driven to the hospital where he later died.
The suspect is described as being a black man between the age of 15 and 18 with a medium build and wearing a white t-shirt.
The group ran off in an unknown direction. Anyone who is in the area between 5:40 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 451-7577.
