A pit bull attacked a 1-year-old child and injured at least two in the Lower Hudson Valley.

On Wednesday around 4 p.m., the Spring Valley Police Department was dispatched to the area of 20 Hoyt Street in Spring Valley after receiving several 911 calls reporting a dog biting people.

Upon police arrival, officers found a chaotic scene with at least two people who were injured by the dog, officials say.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the loose dog began attacking a one-year-old child, according to the Spring Valley Police Department. Several good Samaritans came forward to try and physically remove the animal from the child and the 1-year-old boy's sister. After struggling with the dog, it then bit a 29-year-old man causing significant injury to his arm.

Fox News reports 20 people helped remove the dog, a pit bull, from the child who left with only some bruises. He and his sister had no bite marks.

The dog was finally restrained and contained by another citizen. Upon police arrival, the dog was placed inside a police car and was transported by police to the Hi Tor animal shelter where it is being quarantined. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and police believe they ave identified the owner.

The victims were transported to local hospitals.
