Police: Car Full of Drugs Flees on I-87 in Hudson Valley

A high-speed chase on the New York State Thruway in the local area later led to three arrested after police say they found drugs in the fleeing car.

On Thursday around 1:45 a.m., New York State Police attempted to stop a vehicle on I-87 in the town of Ulster for an alleged vehicle and traffic violation.

The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Aaron Rice of the Bronx, is accused of fleeing police on the Thruway at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle exited the New York State Thruway at the Kingston exit and quickly pulled into a local business in an attempt to evade police, officials say.

Rice along with two passengers, 27-year-old John Singleton of Albany 29-year-old Nigel G. Spencer of the Bronx were all taken into custody without further incident.

During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, approximately 51 grams of crack cocaine and approximately 4 grams of marijuana was found, police say.

Rice was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors, and a violation for possession of marijuana.

Spencer and Singleton were both charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
