Maloney Plans To Fix Health Care, Heroin Plague in Hudson Valley

After getting reelected, Sean Patrick Maloney vows to fix the broken health care system and fight the heroin epidemic in the Hudson Valley

In Tuesday's midterm election, incumbent Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney defeated his Republican challenger, James O'Donnell, by about nine points in the race for the 18th Congressional District.

"I want to thank the people of the Hudson Valley for putting their faith in me and renewing my contract for another two years," Maloney wrote in a Facebook post. "Now is the time to come together across all of our lines of difference to get things done for the Hudson Valley."

The 18th Congressional District represents all of Orange and Putnam counties as well as parts of Dutchess and Westchester counties, according to the New York State Board of Elections.

It was a landmark night for New York Democrats. Starting in January, Democrats will have control of the state Senate, Assembly, and governor's office.

With Democrats controlling New York for the next two years, Maloney hopes to fix health care and fight the heroin problem that has plagues the are in recent years.

"It's been the honor of my life to represent my neighbors in Congress and I look forward to fixing our broken health care system, supporting our veterans, and fighting the heroin and opioid epidemic," Maloney said.
