Homeland Security: Hudson Valley Man Traded Child Porn
A Hudson Valley man is accused of owning and trading child porn.
On Thursday, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home on Cold Spring Road in the Town of Liberty.
At the home, deputies arrested 44-year-old Edward H. McCormack on six counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a felony.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations developed information in October that McCormack was using the KIK messenger app to send and receive child pornography via the internet, police say.
The information was referred to Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
“Some users think the KIK messenger app is anonymous," Sullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff said. “In this case, the defendant left enough of an electronic trail that we were able to track him down and arrest him."
McCormick was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail. Agents from Homeland Security Investigations assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
