Warning: New, Advanced Scam Hits the Hudson Valley
Police are warning the public about a new and technological advanced scam that recently arrived in the Hudson Valley.
Recently an Ulster County property manager for a large apartment complex informed Kingston police that a number of tenants received calls from what appeared to be the apartment complex office phone number.
The caller told the tenants to pay rent over the phone and asked for personal information.
Making this scam worrisome, the renter’s caller ID showed the apartment complex’s number, police say.
In the instance, the renters were familiar with their complex manager’s voice and didn’t provide any information, according to Kingston Police.
Police warn all Hudson Valley residents to be on the lookout to similar scams. The best defense, never give out personal information over the phone to people you don’t know, police say.
