Ulster County Man Sentenced Following Gruesome Home Invasion
An Ulster County man received a lengthy prison sentence following a violent home invasion.
In Ulster County Court, 24-year-old Kashawn Taffawe Watson of Kingston, was sentenced to 15 years in state prison after he was found guilty of attempted robbery and two-counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
On June 7, 2016, Watson and another person, who both wore black ski masks and carried a loaded gun and an electric stun gun, entered a home on Albany Avenue in Kingston and demanded money.
Watson and the other unnamed person threatened a number of people at gun point, tied the up with nylon zip-ties and assaulted them.
During a struggle with one of the residents a shot was fired. The spent round, which was found on the floor of the home, was matched through ballistics testing to a handgun found in an abandoned car on Downs Street, about two blocks from the home invasion. Also found in the car were two black ski masks, one of which contained Watson’s DNA, officials say.
Watson moved to Ulster County from Poughkeepsie in 2005 and attended Kingston High School.
