A plane carrying two people landed into a Hudson Valley lake.

On Saturday around 10:05 a.m., the Warwick Fire Department was dispatched to a plane in the water at Wickham Lake near the Warwick Municipal Airport.

Arriving first responders found a small plane down in the water. As the plane was sinking into the lake, the plane's two passengers were able to safely exit the aircraft and swim to shore, officials say.

The aircraft had an unknown mechanical problem and the pilot chose to place the aircraft into the water, according to the Warwick Fire Department.

The plane was heading to nearby Warwick Municipal Airport, NBC reports. No injuries were reported. Both passengers were checked and cleared at the scene.

The plane was pulled from the lake and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
