Two New York State Police officers were remembered 19 years after they were killed in the line of duty in the Hudson Valley.

On Friday, the Police Chiefs' Association of Ulster County recognized the anniversary of the line of duty deaths of New York State Troopers T. Michael Kelly and Kenneth Poormon in 2000.

Both were killed on May 31, 2000, in a traffic collision with a tractor-trailer on Route 28 near the intersection with Route 375 in the Town of Hurley while conducting traffic enforcement.

Their police cruiser was struck by a tractor-trailer as they were making a U-turn, in an attempt to stop a traffic violator, police say. Both officers were killed instantly, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Poormon had been employed with the New York State Police for less than a year. He was 23. Kelly, 49, was employed with the New York State Police for 22 years.
