A man who killed a dog in the Hudson Valley with a bow and arrow will serve his jail sentence soon.

Thursday, The Appellate Division, Third Department unanimously affirmed the January 15, 2015 conviction of David Moors for aggravated cruelty to animals.

In January of 2014, Moors was charged for his intentional and senseless killing of Clara, a two and one-half year old Australian Shephard/Wire Hair terrier mix, with a bow and arrow in Ulster County.

Following a non-jury trial in Ulster County, Moors was found guilty and sentenced to six months in prison, five years probation, 250 hours of community service, and was required to surrender his weapons as well as his New York State hunting license.

Moors appealed the ruling. On appeal he argued that his sentence was severe and excessive.

The appeals court rejected his claims. In its decision, the Court found adequate proof to support that Moors killed the dog in a sadistic manner by shooting her in the abdomen with an arrow that likely prolonged her suffering.

Moors will be remanded to the Ulster County Jail to begin serving his sentence.
