Those venturing out in the snow this morning should think twice before traveling on I-84.

Traffic is at a standstill on portions of I-84 due to fast accumulating snow. Hudson Valley traffic reporter Nancy Reamy says the problem is due to tractor trailers not being able to navigate the steep inclines near exits one and two.

After 10am the New York State Police shared images of a disabled tanker truck near the Newburgh Beacon Bridge and this image of a tractor trailer in Fishkill that had gone off the road:

Throughout most of the morning westbound traffic was blocked by trucks that couldn't get enough traction. On eastbound lanes the situation wasn't much better. Earlier this morning portions of I-84 were also shut down due to an incident near Route 17.

Two additional accidents were causing even move delays near exit 20 in Brewster and exit 4 in Orange County. Route 9D was closed in both directions due to a collision with a plow, so expect additional problems near exit 11.

The Thruway Authority banned tandem tractor trailers ahead of the storm to avoid problems like this, but the snow has accumulated so fast that all vehicles are having trouble navigating the roads.

Of course, if you don't have to leave your home today it's best to stay home until the storm slows down later this afternoon.

Stay tuned for more developments as the storm continues it's path through the Hudson Valley. We will update this page as conditions change.
