Hudson Valley Man Confesses He Tried to Rape Minor

A Hudson Valley man was sentenced after he admitted he attempted to rape a young girl in Ulster County.

On Wednesday in Ulster County Court, 24-year-old Jonathan Santiago of Spring Glen was sentenced to four years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed after he pleaded guilty to attempted rape.

In June, Santiago confessed he attempted to engage in sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old child, in 2017.

In October 2017, police alleged Santiago had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl at least twice, following an investigation by the Ulster County Family.

He was indicted by an Ulster County Grand Jury in January for three counts of the rape. All three events were alleged to have occurred between Feb. 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017 in the Town of Rosendale, with the same child.

Santiago will have to register under the New York State Sexual Offender Registration Act for a minimum of twenty years. An Order of Protection was issued to remain in effect until Nov. 21, 2036.
