Hudson Valley High School Wins State Championship
A Hudson Valley high school basketball team is celebrating a historic moment.
On Saturday, the Poughkeepsie High School boy's basketball team defeated Pittsford-Mendon 69-59 to win the New York State Class A championship.
It's the school's first boy's basketball state title since 1995, according to the school district's website. On Sunday, the team returned home to Poughkeepsie to a hero's welcome, complete with a police and fire escort and hundreds of supporters who turned out to cheer them on.
City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison shared photos and videos of the celebration on his Facebook page.
According to Rich Thomaselli of Hudson Valley Sports Report, details of a bigger celebration, which may include a parade down Main Street, are being worked out.
