Elderly Hudson Valley Man Killed In Taconic Crash
An elderly Hudson Valley man lost his life after his car crossed three lanes of traffic on the Taconic State Parkway.
On Sunday around 7:40 p.m., New York State Police in Hawthorne responded to a one-car fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on the Taconic State Parkway by mile post marker 18.4.
An investigation found that a 2003 Ford Taurus, driven by 71-year-old William H. Smith of Hopewell Junction crossed three northbound lanes of traffic, left the Taconic and came to rest against the guiderail on the eastern shoulder, police say.
Smith was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
It’s believed that Smith suffered from a medical event prior to his vehicle leaving the roadway. His cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology.
