Elderly Utah Man Accused Of Making Terroristic Threat At Hudson Valley School
A local middle school was placed on lockdown Tuesday after an elderly man from Utah allegedly made a terroristic threat on school property.
On Tuesday around 10:20 a.m., New Paltz police responded to the New Paltz Middle School for a report of a suspicious male walking on school property.
Police were informed that a teacher approached the man and told him that he couldn’t be on school property. The man than allegedly made a threatening comment involving a gun that caused the teacher to be concerned for student’s safety, police say.
The middle school was immediately placed on lockdown. Responding officers located the man, 80-year-old Arnold Projansky of Utah near the school and took him into custody.
Projansky was cooperative with the investigation and was not found to have any weapons, police say. He was charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony.
“Through the investigation, there is not any reason to believe that there was any credibility to Mr. Projansky’s comments nor any concern to public safety,” New Paltz Police Chief Joe Snyder said.
Projansky was arraigned in Town of New Paltz Court and released. He’s due back in court on Wednesday.
