Hudson Valley Propane Facility Fire Sparks Fears Of Explosion

An investigation is underway after a fire at propane facility in the Hudson Valley.

The blaze forced temporary evacuations and briefly shut down a stretch of Route 17.

Fears Of Possible Explosion Near Route 17

The first started at Blue Flame Propane, located on Bloomingburg Road in Middletown, New York on Tuesday, just after rush hour.

Flames came within feet of multiple large propane tanks, including two 1,000-gallon containers, which sparked major fears of a hazardous explosion.

Route 17 Closed Down In Orange County

Six to ten people were evacuated from an 800-to-1,000-foot safety radius. Route 17 was closed in both directions between Exits 116 and 118 for about two hours.

A few people were inside the building at the time of the fire but managed to make it out okay. No injuries were reported.

Fire At Orange County, New York Propane Facility Under Probe

Fire departments from Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan counties assisted at the scene.

The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown and remains under official investigation by local fire marshals and emergency officials.

Fire officials say the blaze started around 10:30 a.m. inside a commercial garage bay/storage facility located at the front of the 307 Bloomingburg Road property.

Officials confirmed the fire didn't start in the propane tanks, but flames spread within 30 feet of the large propane storage containers.
