Cop Found Dead in Lower Hudson Valley Home

A police officer who had just gotten engaged was found dead in the Lower Hudson Valley.

On Tuesday, the Yonkers Police Department announced they are conducting a death investigation into the death of a police officer with the New York City Police Department.

On Tuesday around 3 a.m., Yonkers police members responded to a home on Shoreview Drive on a report of a suicide.

The officer was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene. The New York Post identified the officer as Johnny Rios,  35, of Yonkers.

A preliminary investigation yielded no indications of foul play, and the manner of death appears self-inflicted in an apparent suicide, police say.

"This is heartbreaking. The NYPD family is in our city’s prayers today," New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio tweeted.

Rios would mark the eight NYPD officer to commit suicide this year. He worked for the NYPD for seven years and has been temporarily assigned to work around Yankee Stadium.

According to the New York Post, Rios fatally shot himself in the head in the Yonkers home he shared with his fiancée and her children after leaving a suicide note.
