There is no doubt that the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas could use a little rain. Both the air and the ground are extremely dry.

This time of year fire can be a real issue. Dried leaves and brushes that people have trimmed can lead to an unexpected fire if you are thinking about turning anything outdoors. Typically burn bans are in effect in the Spring but not this Fall.

Burn Ban is in effect in at Least 7 Ulster County Towns

The Ulster County Government announced today that they have issued a burn ban for Ulster County which will extend over the next few weeks,

In a statement released this afternoon, the Ulster County Government informed residents that a burn ban had gone into effect due to the lack of rain and the fire risk from the current weather in the area.

Ulster County Government Activates a Burn Ban

If you are planning outdoor activities that require you to have a fire it is important you contact your local fire department to see if you are currently under the burn ban put in place today. Not complying with the ban could lead to your receiving a hefty fine and worse could result in a fire that destroys property.

While the burn ban is in effect, you may want to eat out instead of grilling. However, so that you know, grilling on a BBQ is still allowed. It is not clear how long this ban is in effect but it is clear that until we get rain we will be living with this ban.
