2 Hudson Valley Residents Replace Yankees Legend

Two Hudson Valley residents replaced a New York Yankees legend.

On July Fourth, Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling ended his 30-year streak of calling every game for the Bronx Bombers. The play-by-play announcer hadn't missed a broadcast since 1989.

Stepping up to the microphone and filling in for Sterling was Ryan Ruocco from Fishkill. The 32-year-old got great reviews, according to the New York Post. Ruocco also fills in for Yankees TV play-by-play announcer Michael Kay on YES, calls Brooklyn Nets games on YES and works for ESPN.

The 81-year-old didn't say why he was taking some games off, but told the New York Post he was "a little under the weather."

Sterling missed four games before the All-Star break and then returned to the microphone on Friday. However, Sterling was off again on Tuesday. The New York Post reported the day-off was planned and Sterling was expected back in the booth for Wednesday's game, which was rained out.

Chris Carrino, who is the Brooklyn Nets radio play-by-play announcer, filled in for Sterling on Tuesday. Carrino grew up in Yonkers before moving to central Westchester County and attended Iona Prep in New Rochelle.
