Update: 3:15 p.m: The tornado warning was lifted for Dutchess County. However, a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Dutchess and Ulster counties. A strong thunderstorm is also expected to impact Orange and Rockland counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado warning has been issued for parts of the Hudson Valley. Weather officials are urging residents to "TAKE COVER NOW!"

At 2:41 p.m. a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Pleasant Valley and near Poughkeepsie moving east at 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service in Albany.

The National Weather Service in Albany issued a Tornado Warning for Central Dutchess County Tuesday afternoon. A radar indicated rotation. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter, officials warn. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will likely occur, according to the National Weather Service. Tree damage is also likely.

  • Stanfordville
  • Littlerest
  • Salt Point
  • Norrie Heights
  • McIntyre
  • Market
  • Netherwood Millbrook Heights
  • Haviland
  • Stissing
  • South Millbrook.

"TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris," the National Weather Service wrote in their warning.
