At 4 AM on Dec. 17, New York State Police (NYSP) Troopers stopped a 2014 Jeep on Route 97 in the Town of Deerpark. The operator,19-year-old Samuel Mittelmark of Shohola, PA, was allegedly driving while impaired and under the influence of narcotics.

During the traffic stop, the troopers discovered that the Jeep had been reported stolen to the Pennsylvania State Police two hours earlier in Pike County, PA. The driver was immediately taken into custody.

The alleged car thief was arraigned in the Town of Deerpark Court on charges of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony along with misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of stolen property, driving while ability impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. He also received a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Mittelmark was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $15,000 bond.
